Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. She participated as a member of the panel during the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She covered many notable issues, such as the weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
